Splash Rooms

As the name suggests, this house of art aims to create a bit of a mess in the pursuit of creating colorful abstract masterpieces. They run a few different programs for adults and children – with neon work, fluid painting, pendulum art and spinning art sessions. Prices start at around 139 Dhs for an hour and include all the materials to do a full Picasso on a canvas.

Keep the kids learning, entertaining and covered in paint this summer with Art Central’s drawing and painting and clay sculpting workshops. Four-session packs cost around Dhs950, but they last two hours, all materials are included, and of course, you can take your masterpiece home.

The art house officially known as Makespace, has a new name – Make, a new face, but their collection of crafty activities all take place in the same funky space. At Make Kids, adults can get involved in a dazzling array of art, design, technology and craft workshops – with hands-on teaching sessions available in jewelry making, word work, ceramics and the purchase of metals. Creative laboratory at Manarat Al Saadiyat

The Creative Lab Summer Camp returns to Abu Dhabi’s Manarat Al Saadiyat for a series of creative workshops between July 18-28. With a particular emphasis on music, there are daily sessions from 9am to 2pm specially designed for children aged 9 to 12. Jingle Production with Berklee Abu Dhabi; Production of music videos with Ayham Alsubaihi; Rap Song and Performance with Philip Rachid; Sound effects with Majid TV; Designing music in films with Gaby Habib; Historical rhythms with Qasr Al Hosn and more. The National Aquarium

Located in the amphibious wonderland that is the National Aquarium’s Flooded Forest, a brand new interactive play center – Bella and Rio’s Playground – designed with the specific purpose of bringing children closer to nature, has just opened and is completely free for ticket holders. Named after residents of the local aquarium, the pair of hyacinth macaws, Bella and Rio’s Playground offers inspiring, exciting and educational experiences such craft and coloring models of flooded forest animals (including macaws, anteaters, monitor lizards and capybaras) that will come to life on an animated wall display. More interactive fun and educational stuff comes in the form of video mapping volcanoes, tinkering with plankton, you can meet Khalid – the pearl diver, and learning about an interactive Ice Age feature.

The Arts Workshop

Part cafe, part art workshop, all breathtaking – L’Atelier Des Arts offers an extensive collection of arts and crafts classes for children and adults. On the program you will find activities like painting sunsets, making dreamcatchers, button art, decoupage, thread bear (no idea what that is, but consider us), interactive felt, mosaic making, paper quilling and a truly mind-blowing palette of other creative colors.

Louvre Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is home to a treasure trove of galleries, museums and culturally significant wonders. We recommend taking a look at our guide to some of the local highlights. But if we had to choose one, it would be the Louvre Abu Dhabi. As well as housing one of the most beautifully curated and objects-of-wow, they have movie nights, there’s a children’s museum, craft and play sessions, paint and grape nights, special exhibits (right now you can catch paper stories) and even guided drawing tours. Held every Wednesday and led by the museum’s educator, you’ll learn insider skills, art tricks, and see another side to this world-class museum.

Cake and sprinkles

Everything is available to discover at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation, behind Qasr Al Hosn until August 31 – as part of a program of fun events under the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) ‘Summer Like You Mean It’ campaign. Cakes and Sprinkles is a limited-time pop-up pop-art patisserie serving cakes, coffee, ice cream and spectator access to stunning, awe-inspiring works by 25 UAE-based artists, around a theme based on ” the love of sweets”. There are also incredibly fun interactive installations and entertainment areas that just seem perfect for a family day out.

Qasr Al Hosn

One of the most important cultural centers in the entire United Arab Emirates, Qasr Al Hosn is a national monument. Once the seat of the national government, residence of the Al Nahyan family and site of national archives, the fort and watchtower (which date from around 1790) now assume their role as a historian for the United Arab Emirates. It has also just opened a brand new component of the House of Craftsmen which offers customers the chance to experience and even try their hand at traditional Emirati arts and crafts.

This local arts center seeks to unearth and nurture local and regional talent. Warehouse421 provides a space that educates and inspires artists and art lovers. They also run an amazing range of arts and crafts workshops and summer club activities for kids. Activities include themed pottery, painting and sculpture classes. Cafe Art House

Art on the walls, art in the plates, art in their hearts. Art House Cafe Abu Dhabi aims to provide a passionate experience, and the dining element is at its heart. They have a huge menu but their famous shakshoka is probably our brunch pick. Every inch feels and smells like a truly inspiring and creative space, surrounded by botanical greenery and abstract scenes. And because it’s a place that celebrates the creative spark, you can do a full Picasso on a plate for 20 Dhs, there’s the option of painting masks (30 Dhs) or a miniature painting on brick (10 Dhs ).
