Antique Fire Truck Convention Comes to Wilmington | New


WILMINGTON – Beginning June 22, 2022, the Massachusetts Antique Fire Apparatus Association (MAFAA) and the International Fire Buffs Association (IFBA) will host a four-day IFBA-SPAAMFAA National Summer Convention to be held in Woburn and Wilmington.

The International Fire Buffs Association promotes friendly and social relations among those interested in the science of firefighting, fire prevention, and related emergency duties within the community.

The Massachusetts Fire Apparatus Association is a local chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motorized Fire Apparatus in America (SPAAMFAA). The purpose of this organization is to promote the preservation of antique motorized fire apparatus, and as part of this promotion, a national event is held annually in different locations across the United States.

This summer’s national event is the first collaborative event between SPAAMFAA and IFBA, and will span several days from Wednesday, June 22 through Saturday, June 25.

Members of the local MAFAA Board of Directors have been planning this event for over a year in conjunction with the organizers of SPAAMFAA and IFBA, and are delighted to host this important convention.

The weekday events will begin June 22 at the Crowne Plaza Woburn Hotel and will consist of a variety of seminars covering topics such as appliance restoration and purchase, fire photography and the history of fires and fires. devices.

Each day will also include a different road trip to places such as the Brockton Fire Museum and the Boston Fire Museum.

Other day trips will include tours of the Merrimack Valley area fire departments and tours of the Battle Roads area fire departments (fire stations located along the historic area of ​​the Revolution American).

On Friday, buses will depart from the plaza for a day of shopping at Merrimack Premium Outlets in Nashua, New Hampshire.

All day tours depart from the Plaza at 8:30 am and reservations are required.

Saturday’s events combined the Summer Convention with the 45th Annual MAFAA Fire Parade, Rally and Flea Market.

The Fire Apparatus Parade will begin at 10 a.m. sharp on Jewel Drive in Wilmington. From there, the parade will continue left on Ames Street, then right on Rt. 28, and continue on Main St. to Concord St., to Federal St., ending at the Shriners Auditorium at 99 Fordham Road in Wilmington.

MAFAA Board Member James McGonagle said of this year’s firefighter parade and rally, “We expect a great turnout with fire apparatus expected from as far away as Washington D.C. , Connecticut, Delaware and Maine.”

Many local communities will also be represented in the parade.

At the end of the parade, all gear will be displayed in the Shriners Auditorium for viewing by the public. There will also be an antique hand tub contest in the Shriners parking lot, as well as a fire-lovers flea market with over 50 vendors inside the auditorium.

The Fire Muster and Flea Market events will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and food and refreshments will be available for purchase onsite.

The entire convention will end on Saturday evening with a cocktail and banquet at the Plaza Hotel in Woburn.

Hotel rooms and tickets for the convention are sold out, but the parade, fire rally and flea market are open to the public and all are welcome and encouraged to attend.
