Outback honey mustard sauce

Despite its name and accent, Outback Steakhouse is an American invention. As an Australian-themed, American-style chain of casual dining restaurants, Outback Steakhouse operates over 1000 locations throughout the world. Four friends founded the first restaurant in 1988 in Tampa, Florida, where it is still headquartered today.

If you’re anything like me, you can never get enough of Outback Steakhouse Honey Mustard Sauce. The good news is that the recipe isn’t a secret anymore. Now, you can make it at home with this copycat recipe.

What makes the Outback Steakhouse honey mustard so good?

The use of high-quality ingredients is what makes this honey mustard dressing so flavorsome. The Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard is a white wine-infused mustard with an ultra-creamy texture and just the right amount of vibrant spice.

When you combine it with good-quality mayo and honey, all of the components play off each other to create a luxurious dressing.

Why you’ll love this recipe

It doesn’t get any easier than this! You don’t need a blender or any special equipment to make this dressing. Just make sure that you thoroughly combine the ingredients and give a while for the flavors to meld before you enjoy it.

Also, this dressing isn’t limited to just salads! You can use it as a dipping sauce for chicken, smother it on a sandwich, or use it as a meat marinade for chicken or pork before they hit the grill. Since it is so versatile, you won’t have trouble putting it to use.

Ingredients

Outback Steakhouse Honey Mustard Sauce uses only three ingredients, but you cannot use substitutions if you want to achieve the authentic taste and texture.

  • Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard
  • Mayonnaise – I recommend Hellman’s or Best Mayonnaise brand
  • Honey

Whipping together these three basic ingredients will give you a great tasting salad dressing, dipping sauce, and barbecue sauce.

Ingredient notes

The original Grey Poupon mustard, named after the two men who combined their mustard-making businesses to form one company in 1866, did indeed start as French mustard. Today though, the mustard is owned and manufactured by an American company and made with Canadian-grown mustard seeds.

Although Miracle Whip is a fine substitute for mayonnaise in almost any recipe, it won’t work here. Miracle Whip is a combination of mayonnaise and other ingredients. Because it doesn’t have enough egg in it as real mayonnaise does, it will separate when you add the honey, which is quite dense.

But don’t let that shy you away from making my version of Outback Steakhouse Honey Mustard Sauce. This delicious sauce is easy to make and you probably have everything you need in your cupboard already.

How to store the salad dressing

In order to stay fresh, this dressing needs to be in a container with a lid or a squeeze bottle with a tight-fitting cap. You can’t just loosely wrap it with plastic wrap. However, when stored correctly, this yummy dressing lasts 7 days.

Other ways to use honey mustard

There are plenty of uses for this honey mustard salad dressing! Here are some ideas:

  • Use it as a sandwich spread. This dressing tastes phenomenal on a chicken sandwich or even a turkey burger.
  • Use it as a dip. You can dunk onion rings, Outback Steakhouse Aussie Fries, or chicken tenders into this delicious dressing!
  • Make wraps more exciting. Making some wraps for lunch? Luckily, this honey mustard tastes great with ham, turkey, and other deli meats you can load into a wrap.
  • Add it to other types of salads. Jazz up your egg salad or potato salad by adding some of this instead of plain mustard! Even pasta salad can benefit from its tangy yet sweet flavor.
