KOCHI: Actor Mohanlal has run into serious trouble for his alleged link to con artist Monson Mavunkal with the Law Enforcement (ED) Directorate which issued a notice on Saturday summoning the actor for questioning about his links with Monson.
ED officials said they had served notice on Mohanlal ordering him to appear before the investigation team on a suitable day next week to gather details about his relationship with Monson.

The actor’s connection to Monson, accused of duping crores of money from various people on the pretext of having valuable antiques which would fetch crores in the international antiques market, came out in public when a photo of the actor with Monson went viral on social media immediately after the con artist was arrested by police for fraud, cheating and rape.
Officials said Mohanlal was asked to come to ED’s regional office in Kochi. The ED launched an investigation against Monson after a preliminary investigation found he allegedly laundered the money he raised by duping numerous state businessmen. Monson is currently in judicial custody.

The ED suspects Monson of using the bogus antique trade as a means of money laundering. It was alleged that hundreds of thousands of rupees were exchanged by Monson through non-banking channels without any documentation.
