A Short Set consists of the second part of the Walking Liberty two-back half-dollar set produced by Whitman in the mid-20th century. The first file contained most of the series from 1916 to 1940, the remainder being included in the second “shorter” file. Several decades later, this Short Set format has been adopted by modern collectors and continues to be a very competitive take on the series, as evidenced by the outstanding results of the Stack’s Bowers Galleries sale.
