Omega/Cartier
It’s no secret that Cartier watches have become catnip for collectors. In fact, the French jeweler is now the second-biggest watch brand by revenue, behind Rolex. A-listers are embracing Cartier, too.
This week, two Hollywood stars stepped out wearing timepieces by the Parisian house. Saltburn’s leading man Jacob Elordi sported an elegant Tank to host Saturday Night Live in New York, while Beef star Steven Yeun also donned a Tank Louis Cartier for an afterparty at Sundance in Utah. Justin Timberlake also wore a Santos-Dumont on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
That wasn’t the only enviable wrist candy we spotted on the streets this week, though. Jay Ellis wore a smart Rolex Datejust at Sundance, while Barry Keoghan rocked a diamond-encrusted Omega to the Masters of the Air premiere and Reece James sported an F.P.Journe at Paris Fashion Week. Perhaps Cartier hasn’t won over everyone just yet.
Check out the best watch flexes of the week below.
Jacob Elordi: Cartier Tank Louis Cartier
Jacob Elordi nailed his first appearance on Saturday Night Live. His watch choice was on point, too. The Saltburn star wore an elegant Cartier to deliver his pithy opening monologue. Released in 2022, this Tank Louis Cartier is distinguished by a large 25 mm case made of 18-karat yellow gold, a minimalist black dial with gold sword-shaped hands, a beaded crown set with a synthetic cabochon-shaped spinel, and a black alligator strap. Priced at $13,000, the elegant watch has been given the tick of approval by A-listers: Paul Mescal, Rami Malek, and Dwayne Wade have rocked the reference. Elordi has worn a diamond-set Tank before, too.
Barry Keoghan: Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades
Barry Keoghan just can’t stop wearing Omegas. To date, he’s rocked a Seamaster Aqua Terra, a De Ville Trésor, a Seamaster Planet Ocean, a Constellation Globemaster, and a Speedmaster. He wore yet another Seamaster to the UK Premiere of Masters of the Air, too. The Irish actor paired a Burberry sweater vest and black wool trousers with an Aqua Terra Shades. Priced at $39,900, this reference features a 38 mm Sedna gold case, a diamond-paved bezel, a conical crown, and a wave-edged caseback with a flat sapphire crystal. The sun-brushed sandstone dial showcases even more bling, with a gold circular date window, gold faceted hands, and gold sailboat-shaped hour markers. Which Omega will he wear next?
Reece James: F.P. Journe Élégante
English footballer Reece James fittingly wore a watch with French roots to the Hermès runway show in Paris. The timepiece in question is the handiwork of F.P. Journe. For the unversed, this brand was founded by French watchmaker François-Paul Journei in 1999. This particular Élégante sports a 48 mm flat tortue case in titanium, a luminescent dial with a steel outer dial, and a light-pink rubber strap. The highlight is the revolutionary electro-mechanical movement, though. Some eight years in the making, Caliber 1210 provides the watch with autonomy of eight to 10 years in daily use and up to 18 years in standby mode. The timepiece also sports a motion detector at 4 o’clock that helps save energy and a small seconds display at 6 o’clock. Quite the mechanical marvel.
Justin Timberlake: Cartier Santos-Dumont
If there’s one way to elevate a simple white shirt, it’s by wearing a limited-edition Cartier watch. Justin Timberlake did exactly that on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday. The actor paired a basic button-down with a Santos-Dumont for his appearance on the talk show. Unveiled at in 2022, the striking timepiece features a 43 mm platinum case with lacquered burgundy accents, a white dial with silver Roman numerals, a beaded crown set with a ruby cabochon, and a burgundy strap. To top it off, the caseback is engraved with the signature of Brazilian designer Alberto Santos-Dumont, who created his first men’s watch for the Maison in 1904. Cartier released just 150 examples and Robert Downey Jr. has one, too.
Jay Ellis: Rolex Datejust 41
Insecure star Jay Ellis cut shapes at a Sundance afterparty in Utah with a Rolex Datejust 41 (Ref. 126334) on his wrist. The watch features a 41 mm case made of Oystersteel and white gold (Rolesor), the Crown’s signature fluted bezel, and a traditional Jubilee bracelet. The timepiece also sports a striking black dial with a date aperture at 3 o’clock. It will set you back $10,700.
Steven Yeun: Cartier Tank Louis Cartier
Steven Yeun was also part of the Cartier crew this week. The Beef star wore a Tank Louis Carter to a Sundance afterparty in Park City, Utah. Worn by Louis Cartier himself, the original Tank Louis Cartier set the standard for all subsequent models. This particular iteration features a 33.7 mm yellow-gold case, a grained silvered dial with blue sword-shaped steel hands, and a beaded crown set with a sapphire. It is typically fitted with a dark gray alligator strap, though Yeun’s strap appears to be navy. Perhaps it pays to be part of the Cartier crew.
