[Jul 21, 2002] Chris Audio Enthusiast Strength: Ear shattering Volume, Earth shaking Bass, Fantastic high tone clarity, Built like a tank, very handsome unit, Looks like a piece of art!!! Weakness: factory metal case covered with plastic veneer is a bit cheesy, wish mine had a woos case i purchased my 2325 at a rummage sale in Kenosha, Wi in july of 2001. I paid twenty bucks for it, and It was in horrible condition. I had planned on dumping it for parts for a few bucks on ebay. Once I got it home and cleaned some nails, bobby pins and about 2 inches of dog hair out of the inner chassis, it actually powered up!! I remembered seeing an ad in a magazine years ago for Marantz, about this dude who had a fire in his house, and after all was said and done his marantz still worked!! So I thought what the hell, I'll clean all the boards and pots, and see what happens!! Well, sure enough it worked fine after some serious cleaning. I took it to work (I'm a machinist) and made some new knobs to replace the ones that were missing. Well now it looks beautiful!!! After hooking it up to a pair of Sansui Sp-3000's and Kenwood KL-777D's I could not Believe the Sound!! This Wonderful Marantz Blows my Sansui 9090DB into the weeds, The Punching Bass, Crisp Highs, and the Clarity is Fantastic. The Volume Level becomes painful after about a quarter throttle. This was my first Marantz and I am absolutely Sold for life. What a great find!!! Thanks to the Spanish Gentleman that had what he thought was a piece of junk. [Mar 29, 2002] clint Audio Enthusiast Strength: Lots and lots of power (125+ WPC), great FM section with the wonderful Gyro-Tune wheel, lots of controls including Dolby NR. Maybe more important than all the previous junk is the fact that this looks like a serious receiver. Weakness: None, at least in a good unit, not like mine... The 2325 is a great old piece of equipment. At 125+ watts per channel, it is more than powerful enough for most anything you can throw at it. It also has lots of nice controls on it, so you can fine tune it to get the sound that you want. There are others in the 23xx product line, but I think the 2325 is probably the best mix of power, controls, and value out there. People often try to compare the 2330 to the 2325. I think this must be a difficult job, as the 2330 has inferior controls. [Dec 20, 2000] Cody Audio Enthusiast Strength: Sounds like a tube amp!!! Looks like a tank Weakness: I really did hurt my back getting it home. I have the 2330 the rare big brother to the 2325. This thing is 130w x 2 Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) 0.07. The tuner is great and I am in the process of replacing all the lamps with oem Marantz to make it total original. The sound is warm and powerful if I were a rock star looking to over dose I would want to do it to this Marantz... I love it! Similar Products Used: Marantz 2220B |

[Aug 28, 2001] Jason Audio Enthusiast Strength: First, this review is for a 2385, with 185 Watts/Channel. Absolutly killer power, dynamic attack that is scary, awesome sound, nice tube-like sound, awesome sound stage and presense. Weakness: None what so ever. It's incredible REVIEW FOR THE MARANTZ 2385: This receiver is insane. To begin with, it outputs 185 watts/channel, weighs between 60 and 70 pounds, and has capacitors that are the size of a 12-oz. beer can. I play it against my other equipment that may cost more now-a-days, and it beats the stuffing out of them. It's no contest. I have this receiver hooked up to some 40-year-old Acoustic Research speakers that I have had re-foamed and the crossovers rebuilt, and it sounds absolutlely sick. It can really make you forget where you are. I'm a really big fan of the Pioneer SX receiver line, as well as McIntosh's big amps, but this receiver is just crazy-good: a freak of the audio world. The AR's really like lots of power to sound good, and this receiver is able to drive them like they were stock cars on nitro. There is a lot of dynamic quality in the music, fast punches in the gut of very big sound when the orchestra kicks up its heels, followed by sweet, delicatly handled interludes. It really delivers the punch with dynamic force, clarity and control, and softer moments with delicacy, excellent tone and detail. The tonal quality is extremely nice and accurate, and sound stage is superior. The space between the instruments is definitely more defined in the music than in any one of my other amplifiers or receivers. When you have warm sound though, you compromise a little bit of precision. But this give-and-take situation of warmth vs. detail is very well balanced in this receiver. The loss is not really noticable, but the benefit certainly is. The absolutely un-rivaled, superior quality of sound really identifies this receiver. You've got to try it. [Sep 29, 2001] K.J. Parsons Audio Enthusiast Strength: Multi-faceted receiver, with all the functionality of classic mid-1970s Marantz component gear. Weakness: Really can't identify any shortcomings. I'll get to the point, the Marantz 2325 was the monster and most desirable solid-state receiver available during the mid 1970s, when a conservatively rated 125 watts per channel was an awesome amount of high fidelity audio power. This receiver was constructed from the finest component parts and specifications that Marantz engineers could assemble, well above the competitors of those heady days in audio history. Incorporating state-of-the-art preamplification and am/fm tuning concepts, with internal dolby noise reduction system technology, formed an astutely superior combination of very desirable functionality for the audio enthusiast. Amplification came from the insides of the well regarded 250 amplifier, one of the highly repected performers of the early 1970s. Of course, the cosmetic looks of the 2325 receiver have always been well regarded. Its a powerful looking piece of gear, functional with all the inherent bells and whistles. And with the solid wood case, it often becomes a very visable piece of furniture in the audio enthusiasts home. I've held my 2325 receiver in my audio gear collection since 1976, rehabbed the insides once, and it performs like no other set of components I've heard. I may be biased a bit (never considered myself a jaded audiophile), due to my allegiance to Marantz gear for my entire adult life, but there is really no comparison when considering the most excellent design and construction of this classic receiver. Others (like reviewers below) may mention the later siblings of the 2325, which possessed more power or slightly sharper specifications, but let's make no misleading or misunderstanding statements to others who are less informed, the original 'Big Daddy' of Marantz receivers will always remain, the magnificent 2325 of Chatsworth, California USA!!! [Jul 29, 2001] Adam Audio Enthusiast Strength: Sounds really clean with Jazz. WOW! Weakness: Tuner section is not as good as my little Sansui 800. I cannot believe there are not more reviews here. Only 2?! Anyways I became interested in vintage audio about a year ago and I always wanted this one. Finally got it. Needed a cleaning but sounds/looks great now. Smooth, defined bass and clean highs. I had to put something jazzy in the CD player to realize how great the receiver sounds. I will never get rid of this thing! ONeal a Casual Listener Bought my 2325 in 1976 & have loved it ever since!Today's pro-logic receivers may be more advance technologically, but this receiver has pure power (125 watts)with its warm, soft "feel" when cranking the heaviest Rock. Great 2nd unit I hope will never fail me. If you can find one of these "antiques", buy it for stereo only. It gets a 5+ star rating when new, only a 3 these days due to limited capabilities. |
