I love making this lemon honey ginger syrup every winter. I always keep a batch on hand and take 1 teaspoon a day in the morning with a glass of water before I eat anything. The antioxidants, vitamin C, and anti-inflammatory properties in one little shot of this syrup are potent yet super tasty!

You can also add it to ginger honey tea and because it is both sweet and tangy the kids won’t mind taking it and you can feel good about knowing you’re giving them something all-natural.

Just 3 Ingredients

Because there are only 3 ingredients in this mixture, I like to make sure to buy organic produce. If you don’t or can’t, it’s totally fine, but if you can, I recommend it.

  • Lemon: Wash the outside but keep the peel on. Remove any seeds.
  • Honey: Raw, unfiltered, unprocessed honey has the most benefits.
  • Ginger: Peeled and grated ginger root aids in digestion, has a pungent and powerful flavor and also provides plenty of nutrients.

How to Make Honey Syrup Recipe

Step 1: Add all ingredients to a high-powered blender and blend until smooth.

Step 2: Pour honey ginger syrup into a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.

And of course, take some whenever you feel a cold coming on!

Recipe Tips

  • High-speed blender. The reason for this is we’re keeping the lemon peels on because they are packed with nutrients, help to eliminate toxins from the body and help to reduce cholesterol among many other things. Ginger is very fibrous as well, so you want the blender to be able to make a smooth mixture without leaving gritty bits.
  • Raw honey. During processing, high heat is used and removes a lot of the good stuff, so keep it raw. Even better if you can find some with propolis for extra antibacterial and immune-boosting functions.
  • Refrigerate. Keep it covered and stored in the fridge. When you notice you’re running low, whip up a quick batch, that way you’ll never run out.

FAQs

Can I make this without a blender?

Yes! You can combine it a little differently by filling up a jar with lemon slices and ginger slices then adding the honey to fill it up. Let it sit in the fridge overnight and enjoy a spoonful of infused honey syrup instead.

Is honey syrup good for a cough?

Yes! Especially for kids, because the last thing we want to do is give them anything that would suppress their cough. Since it’s the body’s way of getting rid of anything in their lungs, this honey syrup aids in that process.

Best ways to use this syrup?

It’s yummy enough to give yourself and your whole family a teaspoon a day on its own. If you’re a tea drinker, add it to your morning cup. Sometimes for sore throats, I’ll sprinkle cayenne pepper over 1 teaspoon of this honey syrup.
